OMNIASIG Vienna Insurance Group Launches E2E Health Insurance Operations in Six Months with FintechOS

In 2019, OMNIASIG Vienna Insurance Group set out to build a new health insurance line of business from scratch. The challenge was not simply to launch a new product, but to create the operating model behind it: policy administration, claims handling, servicing, provider workflows, and digital customer interactions. Using FintechOS, OMNIASIG built a fully functional group health insurance platform in under six months. Over time, the platform became a broader digital ecosystem supporting underwriting, claims, provider settlements, OmniDoc, and mobile app integration.

The Challenge

OMNIASIG Vienna Insurance Group is one of Romania’s leading insurers, part of Vienna Insurance Group, and the largest VIG company in Romania. The company has a strong corporate insurance heritage and a strategic ambition to grow further in retail.

In 2019, OMNIASIG decided to build a new line of business: health insurance. At the time, the health insurance back-office operation was fully externalized, which meant OMNIASIG needed to build the new business capability from the ground up.

The challenge was not limited to product launch. OMNIASIG needed to create the system, platform, infrastructure, and operating workflows required to run health insurance end to end.

That meant supporting policy issuance, policy administration, contract changes, claims management, claims payments, call center interactions, claims handlers, and medical provider workflows. The new platform also had to handle high daily claims volumes and coordinate multiple internal and external actors across the health insurance value chain. OMNIASIG needed to move quickly from ambition to execution. The target was clear: launch a functional health insurance operating platform in six months.

Solution

OMNIASIG partnered with FintechOS after identifying a similar implementation within Vienna Insurance Group. The deciding factors were FintechOS’ insurance experience, implementation agility, and platform flexibility.

FintechOS provided a configurable policy operations and workflow orchestration layer for health insurance, giving OMNIASIG one environment to manage the operational flows behind the new business line.

The platform supported the full health insurance lifecycle, including:

  • Medical provider workflows


Over time, the implementation evolved into a full digital health insurance ecosystem, supporting underwriting, claims, and medical provider settlements as end-to-end processes.

OMNIASIG also expanded the ecosystem with OmniDoc, a medical provider platform that allows providers to authorize medical services with OMNIASIG, making OMNIASIG the first insurer in the market to implement this type of provider platform.
